What Is Sacred Healing?

By Cinda Crawford

To understand what is meant by the term sacred healing, let's look at what the words mean, what the term does not mean, then finally look at how the sacred healing process can become a major part of your happy and healthy life. This is important because nestled in the meaning of the term, sacred healing, are both ancient philosophy and the modern concept of good health.

The term sacred comes from the writings and teachings of our divine nature as children of God. We are sacred because he creates us in his image; therefore we inherit his sacred nature. Similar to the strength of God's triune nature, he gives us a triune underpinning. We are part mind, part body and part spirit. No one part supersedes another. Think of the structure as a three-legged stool. That image helps us understand that all three legs are vital to each other.

The term healing may be almost as old as the word sacred. We are creatures, who have resided on this earth for a long time. We seek perfection, especially in how we feel. If something goes wrong with our bodies, we want it fixed immediately.

"Healing? This table. Waiter, over here, please."

The second step in understanding the term sacred healing is to talk about what it is not. Sacred healing is usually not hands-on healing, but instead is more heart-based healing. Consider most medical professionals. They are not famous for their sacred approach to health. They rarely touch you and, in most cases, don't speak to you about spiritual matters. There are exceptions and when you can find a truly spiritual doctor who expresses heart-based healing, it can feel very comforting.

Most healers who practice the art of sacred healing do not physically touch you either, but they do "touch" your spirit and inner nature. That's why I say this type of healing practice is more heart-based healing.

Examples of the more touch-related healing practices are chiropractic, massage and acupuncture, to name a few. Can you get help from these? If your body feels better, yes. But remember, the body is only one leg of the stool. Your healing will not be complete or whole without mind and spirit healing, too. Only a sacred healer can help you with those aspects of the healing process.

If you look at this topic from afar, but keep it as simple as possible, a person's heart (a.k.a. spirit) and mind (a.k.a. emotions) both must be involved in the healing process to achieve a high degree of healing. Both actions are vital to come full circle. This is a simple way to state the concept, yet it is truly missed for most people. Without spiritual healing that also involves healing the mind, you're left with only a partial experience. When physical healing is left by itself, count on it being an inadequate and unsatisfying experience. That's why sicknesses return at will and why you often suffer with the same types of problems over and over.

Also, Sacred healing paves the way for more awareness and intuition about how to achieve better health and how to stay healthy because you're being more open and honest with yourself. Most people improve physically and grow deeply spiritual through deeper awareness and a broader health perspective. Once you experience sacred healing, other people in your life likely will notice changes in you and ask about what you're doing to look so well. Your answer might be, "I'm changing from the inside out." If they want to know more, share at will. This is your victory. Yes, your longterm, health victory.
